Membership FAQ
1. What certifications are offered through the Center for Diversity Certification?
We offer the Diversity First Certified Professional (DFCP) and Diversity First Executive Professional (DFEP) credentials, each designed to provide critical skills and knowledge for effective diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging (DEIB) work. The DFCP focuses on building foundational DEIB expertise, while the DFEP is tailored for organizational leaders aiming to drive DEIB at the executive level.
2. What are the requirements to apply for the DFCP and DFEP certifications?
To qualify for the DFCP, applicants should have experience in fields like diversity management, recruiting, or training, or have volunteered with DEIB initiatives. The DFEP is suited for individuals with at least five years of professional experience in leadership roles or DEIB-focused positions. Both certifications require completion of a multiple-choice exam.
3. How do I take my certification exam?
Our exams are conducted through PSI’s secure online proctoring platform, accessible 24/7 on your scheduled date. You can take the exam at home or in your office. For testing in a secure environment, ensure you have a camera-enabled device, a government-issued ID, and a quiet space for a room scan.
4. How long is the exam, and what score is required to pass?
Each certification exam is 2.5 hours long, with a passing score of 80% or higher. Your exam includes 170 multiple-choice questions and covers various DEIB competencies. If you need extra time due to a medical or valid diagnosis, an additional 30 minutes can be arranged.
5. How often must I renew my certification?
Both the DFCP and DFEP credentials are valid for three years. To renew, you must complete 60 Continuing Education Credits (CECs) and pay a $50 recertification fee. This ensures your DEIB knowledge remains current and relevant.
6. What happens if I don’t pass the exam?
If you don’t achieve the required 80% score, you may retake the exam at any time. We encourage you to attend an exam review session before retesting to enhance your preparation. The fee for each retest is $599.
7. What are the scheduling options for the exam?
The online exam center is open 24/7, allowing you to schedule your exam on a weekday or weekend based on your convenience. PSI’s system offers flexibility to meet your schedule and needs. The exam must be completed within 12 months of registration.
8. Can I take study breaks during the exam?
As this is a timed, proctored exam, study breaks are not permitted once the exam has started. Make sure you are fully prepared, with a quiet, uninterrupted space for the duration of the exam.
9. What resources are available to help me prepare for the exam?
Our Learning Management System (LMS) provides instructions, and study materials to help you prepare for the certification process. We recommend familiarizing yourself with DEIB best practices prior to exam.
10. Can I reschedule my exam if my plans change?
Yes, you can reschedule your exam through our learning management system, as long as you make the change at least 48 hours before your originally scheduled test date.
11. What happens if I need to cancel my exam at the last minute?
If you cancel your exam less than 48 hours before your scheduled time, there will be a $350 late cancellation fee. This policy applies to all test takers, so please be sure to plan accordingly.
